"Multi-Cloud Security & Connectivity"

Success Story: Building a Secure Global Multi-Cloud Network for a Managed Service Provider with F5 Multi-Cloud Networking (MCN)

As Managed Service Providers (MSPs) grow, so does the complexity of the infrastructure they manage. Every new customer introduces different cloud providers, networking standards, security requirements, and compliance obligations. What begins as a handful of cloud environments can quickly evolve into hundreds of interconnected applications spread across multiple regions.

One of our clients, a global Managed Service Provider supporting enterprise customers across Australia, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America, faced exactly this challenge.

The company managed business-critical applications hosted across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), VMware private clouds, and multiple on-premises data centres. Each customer environment had been built independently over time, resulting in fragmented networking, inconsistent security policies, complex VPN topologies, and increasing operational costs.

Provisioning connectivity for a new enterprise customer often required days of manual configuration. Managing hundreds of VPN tunnels, routing policies, firewall rules, and cloud-native networking services had become both operationally expensive and difficult to scale.

SafeNet was engaged to modernise the provider's global networking architecture using F5 Multi-Cloud Networking (MCN), powered by F5 Distributed Cloud (XC).

Rather than replacing the customer's existing cloud infrastructure, SafeNet designed a unified application networking platform that securely connected every cloud, region, and customer environment through a single global architecture. The implementation leveraged F5 Distributed Cloud Mesh to establish secure application-to-application connectivity across all locations without relying on a complex full-mesh VPN design.

Each customer environment was logically isolated using policy-based segmentation while remaining centrally managed through a unified control plane. This allowed the MSP to onboard new enterprise customers rapidly while maintaining strict security boundaries between tenants.

Traffic between applications was encrypted end-to-end, and intelligent routing automatically selected the optimal network path based on application health, latency, and availability. Instead of manually maintaining routing policies across multiple cloud providers, the operations team managed connectivity from a single interface.

The solution also integrated Zero Trust principles by enforcing identity-based access controls and consistent security policies across every cloud platform. Whether workloads resided in AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes clusters, or private infrastructure, applications communicated securely without exposing unnecessary network access.

Operational visibility improved dramatically. Network engineers gained a real-time view of application health, service dependencies, traffic flows, and connectivity across the entire global environment. Troubleshooting that previously required logging into multiple cloud consoles could now be completed from a centralised management platform.

Within weeks of deployment, customer onboarding times were significantly reduced, network operations became far more efficient, and the MSP was able to deliver a consistent networking experience regardless of the underlying cloud provider. The simplified architecture also reduced administrative overhead while improving service reliability for enterprise customers.

Today, the provider operates a globally connected, secure, and scalable multi-cloud platform capable of supporting hundreds of enterprise workloads across multiple regions. As new customers are onboarded or additional cloud environments are introduced, the platform scales without requiring major network redesigns.

Business Outcomes

  • Unified networking across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, private cloud, and on-premises infrastructure
  • Reduced customer onboarding time from days to hours through automated connectivity
  • Eliminated the complexity of managing hundreds of traditional VPN tunnels
  • Improved global application performance through intelligent traffic routing
  • Implemented consistent Zero Trust networking policies across every environment
  • Delivered secure multi-tenant isolation for enterprise customers
  • Centralised monitoring, policy management, and operational visibility
  • Increased service availability and simplified ongoing operations
  • Built a scalable platform capable of supporting future cloud expansion without architectural redesign

At SafeNet, we help organisations move beyond simply connecting cloud environments. We design intelligent Multi-Cloud Networking architectures that give enterprises and service providers the flexibility to deploy applications anywhere, the visibility to manage them centrally, and the security to protect them everywhere.
